After the mad destruction of the worldfamous Schlachthof Hall-Of-Fame and the further commercial use of the area, it seemed like Graffiti-Culture lost all spaces.

Eventhough the Meeting made the city of Wiesbaden a worldwide known symbol for a positive approach towards Graffiti-Art, the climate has changed due to new majorities and mentalities in the city-council.

The city is located in central Germany and is the capital of the state of Hessen. It is on the right, northern, bank of the river Rhine and lies opposite the city of Mainz on the other side of the river.

MEETING OF STYLES 2008 – BIG DREAMERS

13.-15. June 2008

Brückenkopf Theodor-Heuss-Brücke, Mainz-Kastel

The Brueckenkopf is a huge traffic-circle at the bench of the river Rhine, connecting the cities of Wiesbaden and Mainz and represents the largest Graffiti-Gallery among the entire Rhine-Main-area and beyond.

The venue consists an underpass-complex with more than 3000qm of walls in different sizes and more walls around. wsbspotpic1.jpg
IMG_3696.jpg The Bridge-Jams were hold here since the late 90ies until the MOS has moved here.
This year we got even more walls provided by private owners. The new main wall was supposed to illustrate the roman history of the district. wsb08web11.jpg
DSC04853.jpg Peninne Nomads and End of The Line worked hard to arrange more than 20 artists in a huge scale production.

The event actually started thursday preparing of the concept.

Most artists arrived on friday while saturday was the main day with an outside-sounsdystem, barbeque and was closed with a Dancehall-Reggae-Concert with the living legend Ras Abraham and Irie Vibes Soundsystem in a yard next to the river. IMG_3523.jpg
effexlink.jpg Under the eyes of more than 2000 visitors, several TV-stations, more than 100 artists from Europe, Russia, USA, Australia painted more than 3000qm of walls.

Beside of the new main wall, we were happy to finally get permission for a wall, we asked for several years. Plus a houseowner came up spontaneously and gave three more smaller walls. So no doubt the vibe was very positive and cooperative, cause verybody was happy to meet and to paint.

The Primitive Family from Italy, Does and Nash, Dome and manymore,  lot of known but also less known talents attended. Demon pf the Knomadz and DJ MP from the windy city Chicago rocked the sound. IMG_3418.jpg

HydeOne from the Bay-area, who created the MOS08-Illustration flew in especially to represent in Kastel.

Eventhough the event turned to be a huge success, there are still conservative minds working against international colaboration and exchange. They demand to stop all financial and logistical support, claiming the right to define what art should be like, and cant be like. WSB-CDU08.jpg

Wiesbaden as the home of the Int. Meeting Of Styles enjoys a high reputation among the worldwide Graffiti-scene, as the project started here back in 1997 with the first Wall Street Meeting under the title “Let´s Stick Together”. Read the whole story

Since the city has torn down the Gallery in 2002, there is almost no Graffiti left at the original spot. As the area is in commcercial use, there is neither any spirit nor vibe left anymore. abriss2.jpg
p6030246.JPG But luckily a new spot had been found in Mainz-Kastel, a city-district originally part of Mainz. Because of the reforms after worldwar II, the river became the boarder and Kastel a part of Wiesbaden.

How ever, here we have fullest support and are enabled to continue what wasnt possible at the Schlachthof anymore – creating a Gallery of Graffiti-Art as part of urban development.
