Greater Mexico City includes 58 municipalities with a population of 19.2 million, making it the largest metropolitan area in the western hemisphere and the second largest in the world. As for many other Latin American countries, crime is among the most urgent concerns facing Mexico. Drug trafficking rings play a major role in the flow of cocaine, heroin, and marijuana transiting between Latin America and the United States which has led to corruption, with a deleterious effect on Mexico’s democracy. Drug trafficking and organized crime have also been a major source of violent crime.

	The country has experienced increasingly high crime rates, especially in major urban centers. Other metropolitan areas have lower, yet still serious, levels of crime.
Low apprehension and conviction rates contribute to the high crime rate. The high incidence of crime has also poured across the border and influenced crime in the US, aggravating problems including drugs, illegal immigration, gangs.
	Mexico City’s inner core has about 8 million people – about the same number as New York City. However, Mexico City’s police force is only two-thirds the size of New York City’s and is organized into several ill-co-ordinated forces.
Policemen earn less than a quarter of their U.S. counterparts, so many officers turn to corruption to augment their pay. The organization of police forces in Mexico is complex; each police force has a different level of jurisdiction and authority, and those levels often overlap.
	Mexico City is served by an extensive metro system (207 km), the largest in Latin America. The system has 11 lines in 175 stations and a 12th line is planned to be constructed in the year 2008 along with a suburban rail system similar to the French RER system.
One of the busiest in the world, the metro transports approximately 4 million people every day, surpassed only by Moscow’s (7.5 million), Tokyo’s (5.9 million), and New York City’s (4.9 million).

	There were several walls, outside and inside the park. The ones outside were kind of noisy but with a lot of traffic coming by while the inside ones were more chilly with green, trees and music.
A lot of writers came from all over the country, HEM from TJ flew in especially for the MOS, Mr. Puppet from Sweden and some americans as well. Walls had different sizes for complexer and longer productions as well as for single pieces and characters.
	The sun was shining, as early in the morning writers met to check out wallspace and to start creating. The scene has a lot of female writers and crews too and is very vibrant. A lot of people came by to check out the event, as well as newspaper and TV.
Graffiti is really strong in Mexico, the capitol is bombed very hard and has endless throw-ups, bombs and tags everywhere… cause if you get caught painting illegaly, you can easily pay off the cop.

The metropolitan area is the home to nearly 13 million people. The Greater Los Angeles Area, encompassing five counties, has an estimated population of over 17.7 million people.The Los Angeles coastal area was first settled by the Tongva and Chumash Native American tribes thousands of years ago. The city was founded in 1781 as El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles de Porciúncula (The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels of Porciuncula)

and became a part of Mexico in 1821 following independence from Spain and then a part of the United States in 1848 at the conclusion of the Mexican-American War.

LOS ANGELES, CA – Crewest Gallery, Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR) and Man One Design teamed up with the International Meeting of Styles to launch the Meeting of Styles LA event on the weekend of September 22 – 23, 2007.

“The L.A. River holds a special place for graffiti artists in L.A. Many artists who have grown up painting its walls have utilized its grand scale to make their mark, consequently shaping the identity of this city,” Man One explains.

Over one hundred artists from LA were scheduled to meet artists from San Diego, Bay area, Mexico and far away as Europe to spraypaint a 10,000 square foot section of the concrete waterway at the Arroyo Seco Confluence in Highland Park.
	But then, after rain friday night, the flood came and the walls, located in side-arms of the river, were not accessable. The river itself, is almost dry during summer time, but when it rains, it collects the water of a huge area in a strong tide.
Too bad for out-of-towners, as the event had to be postponed. The event kicked-off the River City Visionz, a collaborative mural production and festival directed by Man One Design, Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR), and Hadley Media involving hundreds of local and international artists scheduled to be held in a Downtown section of the L.A. River in the fall of 2008.
	After the water came down during the week, the river-painting-event happened a week later – paralell to the mexican MOS. As you can see, the vibe must have been pretty smooth. These street art visionaries transformed the L.A. River’s stark facade into a unique and vibrant collaborative mural.

“The opportunity to produce a sanctioned graffiti mural event in the river will be anincredible statement about the evolution of the art form and the role that the river can play in a newly revitalized downtown. It is an honor to bring international recognition to L.A. by producing thisevent for the Meeting of Styles, who bring with them a global network of graffiti art aficionados.”

At the original date, you could meet and greet some of the participating local and visiting artists at the official Meeting of Styles L.A. Blackbook session at Crewest. Artists participating in the MOS-LA project were present to sign sketchbooks and support the c exhibit “River City Visionz.” Visitors enjoyed a live painting performance by keynote artists and live music by Myk Mansun (Majestik Headquarters/Los Angeles), DMNOLOGY (Knomadz/Chicago).

The LA Transportation Authority operate an extensive system of bus lines, subway, light rail lines. LA mass transit system does not have high ridership, 10.5% of commuters using public transit, compared with 53% and 30% in NYC and Chicago.
	LA has been experiencing significant decline in crime since the mid-1990s, hit a record low in 2006 with 29.737 acts of violence, of which 481 were homicides. Many movies and songs depict the notion that the city is home to a large number of gangsters and professional criminals.
Car chases happen more often than in most other major cities, with the city’s complex freeway system allowing for lengthier pursuits. Other automobile-oriented crimes include car-to-car shootings, drive-by shootings, freeway shootings, hit-and-run accidents, and carjackings.
	According to a May 2001 Drug Threat Assessment, Los Angeles County is home to 152,000 gang members organized into 1,350 gangs.Among the most infamous are the Crips, Bloods, 18th Street, Florencia 13, and MS-13. This has led to the city being referred to as the “Gang Capital of America.

The 1992 Los Angeles riots, also known as the Rodney King riots, were sparked on April 29, 1992 when a predominately white jury acquitted four police officers accused in the videotaped beating of black motorist Rodney King when he resisted arrest following a high-speed car chase.
	Thousands in the Los Angeles area joined in a race riot involving acts of law-breaking, including looting, assault, arson and murder, seeing in King an example of injustice against Blacks in the United States.

The situation was so grim that the California National Guard and the U.S. Marine Corps were called in.

Founded in 1833 at the site of a portage between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River watershed, it soon became a transportation hub in North America and quickly became the business and financial capital of the Midwest.

Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), operator of mass transit, is the second largest transit system in the US. It offers bus and rapid transit routes throughout the city, covers city limits and forty surrounding suburbs.
	The CTA’s 1,190 train cars operate over eight routes and 222 miles of track.Its trains provide about 650,000 customer trips each day and serve 144 stations in Chicago. The system is the second largest in the US. Only NY´s MTA is more extensive.
Old-School-King Zore, Knomadz, SB hooked it up, the spot: the famous Walls Of Style at Little Village, a hood around Kedzie and 30th, near Albany.

	Chicago Hip-Hop is very specific and vibrant…. Chicago-Blues. Though the city is buffing and keeps on criminalising Graffiti, writers are hardcore and buisy. The past MOS have shown the strength of the scene; strong words, minds, skills and styles.
The local orga started the week-end of true Hip-Hop- and Graffiti-Flavour with an Art-Show at a Gallery downtown, introducing some of the most up Graf-Artists, such as Hyde or Zore, Demon and many more.
	Saturday was sunny so writers were ready to catch walls and vibes even before high-noon. DJ MP and friends were spinning turntables, Graf-Artists from all around Chicago, state and further creating, while rappers rocked the spot.
Sunday was the day to finish artworks and to hang out, while the weekend traditionally is closed with an After-Partyat a club where the Knomadz present the Real Underground featuring Ang13, Dr. Who, Blunt Crew and many more.

In Chitown Crews are prioritized, as a group can usually pull off more than an individual. First contact, proven skills, first served: we ask that you send several pictures of your artwork. These will be measured against other flicks, and weighed first on a crew basis.

	If you are alone, or your crew is not dependable enough, we recommend you link with other individuals that you want to paint with to make a crew for a day. Once the meetings begin, it is again first come first served.
Those crews who arrive first receive priority. We automatically reserve a certain amount of space for out-of-towners, so that they are guaranteed for their travels.

Through the help of a lot of activists of all discplines the Chicago MOS has always been a special Meeting, with Art-Show, Graf-Jam and After-Party.

Alphonse Gabriel Capone (January 17, 1899 – January 25, 1947), popularly known as Al Capone or Scarface, was an Italian American gangster who led a crime syndicate dedicated to the smuggling and bootlegging of liquor and other illegal activities during the Prohibition Era of the 1920s and 1930s. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Capone began his career in Brooklyn before moving to Chicago and becoming the boss of the criminal organization known as the Chicago Outfit (although his business card reportedly described him as a used furniture dealer).By the end of the 1920s, Capone had gained the attention of the FBI following his being placed on the Chicago Crime Commission’s “public enemies” list. Although never successfully convicted of racketeering charges, Capone’s criminal career ended in 1931, when he was indicted and convicted by the federal government for income tax evasion.

The Chicago Outfit, also known as “The Outfit” is a “Crime Syndicate” that has a history beginning long before Prohibition. It is part of the United States phenomenon known as the Mafia. However, the Chicago Outfit is distinct from its cousins, the “Five Families” or La Cosa Nostra, of New York City.

The Outfit is the only criminal organization that has a monopoly on traditional organized crime in the city of Chicago, whereas the Five Families compete with each other for control of racketeering activities in New York. The Outfit’s control reportedly reaches throughout the central United States to places as far away as Las Vegas, Nevada and parts of Florida.

To this day, The Outfit bears the influence of its best-known leader, Al Capone; in fact, for several years after Capone left the scene, The Outfit was known as “the Capone Gang” or “the Capones.”

The city comprises five boroughs, each of which is coterminous with a county: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. With over 8.2 million residents within an area of 322 square miles (830 km²), New York City is the most densely populated major city in North America. The metropolitan area has a population of nearly 22 million and ranks among the largest urban areas in the world.

The New York City Subway is notable for being among the few rapid transit systems in the world to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

	Among the ten busiest systems in the world in terms of annual passenger traffic, it is the only one to hold such a distinction, setting it apart from cities such as London, Paris, Tokyo, and Moscow.

In all those years of the NYC-MOS it has never been easy to get it going (years ago the former MOS-organiser Cern got arrested cause of the MOS). As the city has been tagged and bombed hard for decades, a climate of „zero tolerance” and „broken windows” is still around the city. As Graffiti is a sign of rebellion for authorities, the city still tries to vanish Graffiti in all its forms.„Broken Windows”

George L. Kelling, was hired as a consultant to the New York City Transit Authority in 1985, and robust measures to test the Broken Windows theory were implemented by David Gunn

Graffiti vandalism was intensively targeted, and the system was cleaned line by line and car by car from 1984 until 1990. In 1990 William J. Bratton became head of the Transit Police.
	Bratton described George L. Kelling as his “intellectual mentor”, and implemented zero tolerance of fare-dodging, easier arrestee processing methods and background checks on all those arrested.
Republican Mayor Rudy Giuliani also adopted the strategy more widely in New York City, from his election in 1993, under the rubrics of ‘zero tolerance’ and ‘quality of life’.
	Thus, Giuliani’s “zero tolerance” roll out was part of an interlocking set of wider reforms, crucial parts of which had been underway since 1985.

Giuliani had the police even more strictly enforce the law against subway fare evasion, stopped public drinkers, urinators, and the “squeegee men” who had been wiping windshields of stopped cars and demanding payment. Critics point to the fact that rates of major crimes also dropped in many other US cities during the 1990s…

Now you know you that NY is tuff place for Graffiti, pretty well illustrated by the mad propaganda NY-authorities run against Ket. The city has been bombed hard since years, so no question about the fact that the city of New York is strict Anti-Graffiti since years and that it aint easy to do a Jam in the Big Apple. But eventhough our Locals managed it several times.

The NYC Meeting of Styles happened again in 007, showcasing some of the best talent in NYC. Due to certain situations that have been brought to life in the past couple of weeks before the event, it was scheduled to be a bit smaller and the locations to be given a few days prior. The line was full and unfortunately there was no additional space for anyone who just showed up.

	Any painter who has not been in contact with the locals, was not able to paint. We tried to accomodate as many writers as possible every year, but some complications this year we just had to take in stride,

After Coped arranged the permit of the landlord, Col put it on. Some writers showed up on friday to prepare the walls, most met saturday morning. Major NY-Crews such as the Wallnuts, TD4, FX and Graff writers from around the world…

… Canada, Europe, Puerto Rico, united in the Bronx in an effort to attest graffiti as an art-form and not vandalism. As Cope was buisy during the weekend, he had done his piece a day before. 156 from Montreal came along,
	Old-School was down to rock some walls. A lot of People came along to chill and to enjoy Graffiti in a peacefull and relaxed vibe up in the Bronx.

	… both those that had adopted ‘zero tolerance’ policies and those that had not. Other research has pointed out that the ‘zero tolerance’ effect on serious crime is difficult to disentangle from other Initiatives happening at around the same time in New York.
Initiatives such as the police reforms described above, programs that moved over 500,000 people into jobs from welfare and housing vouchers that enabled poor families to move to better neighborhoods.
	Alternative explanations that have been put forward include: The subsidence in the crack epidemic, unrelated growth in the prison population due to Rockefeller drug laws,
that the number of males aged 16-24 was dropping anyway due to demographic changes, that more people were getting jobs and thus finding a way out of crime.

Originally called Ville-Marie the city had come to be known as Montréal by the end of the 17th century, a name derived from the French Mont Royal, the name of the three-head hill at the heart of the city.

Formerly the largest metropolis of Canada (a distinction acquired by Toronto in the mid-1970s), it is the second-largest French-speaking city in the Western world after Paris. In 2007, Montreal was ranked as the 10th cleanest city in the world eventhough it has a lot of Graffiti and Street-Art.

	Archeological evidence suggests that various nomadic native peoples had occupied the island of Montreal for at least 2,000 years before the arrival of Europeans.
With the development of the maize horticulture, the St. Lawrence Iroquoians established the village of Hochelaga at the foot of the Mount Royal.

The French explorer Jacques Cartier visited Hochelaga on October 2, 1535, claiming the St. Lawrence Valley for France.He estimated the population to be “over a thousand”. The city is a cultural heart of classical art and the venue for many summer festivals, the Place des Arts is a complex of different concert and theatre halls surrounding a large open-spaced square in the downtown.

Montreal is the cultural centre of Quebec, and of French-speaking North America as a whole. The city is Canada’s centre for French language television productions, radio, theatre, film, multimedia and print publishing. The Quartier Latin is a neighbourhood crowded with cafés animated by this literary and musical activity. The local English-speaking artistic community nevertheless contributes dynamically to the culture of Montreal, and intense collaborations exist between all Montreal communities.

The second Montreal edition was a definit’ hit. The weather was beautiful, the NYC oldschoolers came through, the montreal heads killed it, fans loved it. The jam’s funding it still a major concern…

But once again, it was homegrown and hustled hard. MOS Montreal shows what’s possible with minimal money and a lot of heart/art. The opening party was presented by 00Ggallery.com.
	For the occasion, recent works by Norm (San Francisco, world famous 7th Letter crew) were on display at 111 Roy St. This guy is a machine. In a couple days, he painted the venue inside out, tattooed and got inked himself, painted some spots around town, and nearly sold out his show.
The opening reception was a success, as the featured artist, out of towners and local heads got a chance to meet many curious, interested and interesting people. Painting went down at the same location as last year…
	… probably the best spot around town: in the middle of downtown’s festival district. Many legends hit up the walls, such as members from FC, COD, 156, MSK, TFO, 123Klan & TPA crews. Excellent piecers from Montreal, Toronto, NYC, France, Porto Rico and beyond got up also.

Books got killed as well, as kids and fans jumped on the occasion to meet some of their heroes.

“Nobody got hurt, nobody got arrested. MOS Montreal’s well on its way to 2008.”

It is on the right bank of the river Scheldt which is linked to the North Sea by the Westerschelde.

	Antwerp’s seaport, one of the world’s largest and after the port of Rotterdam the second largest in Europe, has a high level of cargo shipping and oil refineries traffic. Antwerp is a global centre of the diamond trading industry.
The Antwerp-Orga always comes up with new ideas, concepts, content and message. So in double o7. The topic: “Climate Change”. Antwerp has long been an important city in the nations of the Benelux both economically and culturally.

Bird from Antwerp, Graf-Writer and co-organiser had created a basic background-concept to make sure the whole yard and its walls come out tbe one huge production.

Starting in October 2006 Bird already created a theme and visualisation for this year, and then started mailing writers. All writers had only one choice, either to be in or out this project. Non refused, all were very happy with the idea behind it. From that moment on we could start organise everything, from the graffiti part towards music, dj’s, vj’s, hotels, catering and so on, and so on.

	The concept for the entire yard walls was underlined by several texts in the background discussing climate change. These texts assume more of a typographic background function, because they will partly be covered by new pieces.
For the 6th time Meeting Of Styles was held in Antwerp with Graffiti on two locations: youth center Kavka (Oudaan 14) main happening, during 4 days writers will work on a huge painting with a topic: Climate change.

	But thats not all, we had a great side-program at Kavka with every day DJ’s and lot’s of extra stuff: the Movie “Kroonjuwelen”, a graf-movie about Amsterdam, next generation of Antwerp beat box, performance of “Senses Overloaded” , Party-Time and Breakdance-Battle.
For the first time in 3 years we could return to the place where it all started: The Muntplein. nfortunately its not really the way it used to be, back in the days… as due to construction works it isn’t that much space left anymore. But its available!
	It´s been a super meeting, with a great familiar feeling, quality and atmosphere were very good. A lot of writers were very happy about the way they were welcomed in Antwerp, how all things were arranged inside and outside the meeting.
A lot of positive response of writers and non-writers.

Founded by Tsar Peter the Great on May 27, 1703 as a “window to Europe”, it served as the capital of the Russian Empire for more than two hundred years. St. Petersburg ceased being the capital when the government moved to Moscow after the Russian Revolution of 1917.

	With about 4.8 million inhabitants in its metropolitan area, Saint Petersburg is Russia’s second-largest city, a major European cultural center and the most important Russian port on the Baltic.
As in other large Russian cities, SPB experiences fairly high levels of Streetcrime. In recent years has been a noticeable increase in racially motivated violence. End of the 1980s, beginning of the 1990s SPB became home to a number of gangs, such as Tambov Gang, Kazan Gang and ethnic criminal groups, engaged in a racket, extorsion and violent clashes with each other.
	The subwaysystem exhibitis many typical soviet designs, decorations , artwork making it one of the most attractive and elegant metros in the world. Due to the unique geology it is the deepest subway system in the world, serving three million passengers daily.
Russia is incredibly huge. Writers who travel from city to city need to ride the trains for hours through the wilderness. To get from one city to another city can take up to 12hours of train rides, and even longer. After it wasnt sure whether the MOS will happen or not, Trun and The Funk Fanatix were the heads to kick it off.
	The wall was roughly a kilometer long and up to 2.50m high. Artists from all over the country made long ways to join the second russian edition.
Eventhough some slight rain-showers passed by over the day, the sun always made the walls dry very fast. A lot of people passed by the event, taking photos, chatting, chilling – over two days concrete traffic.
	The scene over there is pretty buisy and large, just spread among a huge country. Russian Graffiti-Art is on a very high-level eventhough cans are not cheap at all.

The entire week-end was rocked by DJs spinning the right tunes to create a chilly atmosphere while saturday evening Rappers conquered the stage to cook it real hot.

The capital of Padova province, it stands on the Bacchiglione River, 40 km west of Venice and 29km southeast of Vicenza, with a population of 211,985 (2004). The city is included, with Venice in the Padua-Venice Metropolitan Area, population 1,600,000. The city is picturesque, with a dense network of arcaded streets opening into large communal piazze, and many bridges crossing the various branches of the Bacchiglione, which once surrounded the ancient walls like a moat.

	Padua is the setting for most of the action in Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. It claims to be the oldest city in north Italy, founded in 1183 b.C. by Trojan prince Antenor.
The early medieval commune justified itself by a fabled founder in the Trojan Antenor, whose relics the commune recognized in a large stone sarcophagus exhumed in the year 1274.
	What happened lately is that the local administration at the very last wanted to change the spot for the meeting. The new area identified, seemed unappropriate for the event, so we were checking to solve the issue with the municipality which we did. So here comes the new Padova-MOS-spot….
“Parco Brentelle”. The EAD-Crew hooked it up once more onto a new level. It seems like the city is very open for Graffiti; in opposite to narrow-minded politicians, the local administration makes a difference and has realised the huge potential of Graffiti.
	The concept for the tremendous main wall: “Sky Is The Limit”. Huge clouds all over, done by the help of lifters and spray-guns. EAD took care of the main concepts as well as the background
You know that Italians are very polite and chill people. No doubt, the vibe was very nice. People were chilling, drinking tea, watching, chatting, working. During day-time it was really hot, almost impossible to paint…
	… cause you were about to be boild in front of your wall – if there was no shadow. So near to evening more and more artists got buisy.It was organised perfectly; huge lifters, spray-guns and night-lights providing a night-shift-flavour.
During three days there were original soundtracks presented in Turntablism. Saturday afternoon B-Boys came along to present their skills. EAD, AGW and more rocked the floor.

The easier way is: exit highway from “Padova Ovest”, just out the highway take the LEFT exit, go straight following indications for Bologna Rovigo Vicenza, attention to the right, when you see the indication Via Chiesanuva take the way, go straight for three lights untill you see Via Cave on the left, enter Via Cave, straight on you’ll find Via Pelosa, turn right in via Pelosa the park is on the right side.

The city is Switzerland’s main commercial and cultural centre and is widely considered to be one of the world’s global cities.

The Cisalpino, InterCityExpress, and even the French TGV high-speed trains stop in Zürich. International Airport in Kloten
	is located less than 10 kilometres northeast of the city.Within Zürich and throughout the canton of Zürich, the ZVV network of public transport has traffic

density ratings among the highest worldwide. If you add frequency, which in Zürich can be as often as 7 minutes, it does become the densest across all dimensions.

Zürich offers a lot of variety when it comes for night-time leisure. It became one of the capitals of Europe’s electronic music scene and is the host city of the world-famous Street Parade, which takes place in August every year.

After the event started in Winterthur, a smaller city near Zürich, the option came up to do itat Zürichs Hall-Of-Fame located next to the Limmat-River.
