Antwerp in Belgium is another city thats been part of the MOS-project since its early hours. The original Muntplein-spot was kind of a little park in a unused corner of a housing-district near the city-center in use of a legal Hall since several years.

Due to politics it wasnt possible to find a good spot in Amsterdam, so we just moved a little outside, to Almere. The first ducht Meeting was a great and colourfull expirience.

First year, first choice, everything wide, everything new. It´s been a long way, but the MOS came through. Lodz, an industrial city, 150km south of the capitol Warsaw, was the place to be.

	MOS 2002 …illustrates the first nine events in eight countries, impressions, interviews, talks and works of many known and unknown artists, creation of the Wall-Street-Monument. App. 80 minutes
	Almere (Netherlands) – As it wasn´t possible to get a permit for Amsterdam, we moved to a city near. The Jam happened at a fresh Skate-Park.
	Antwerp (Belgium) – The first belgian MOS happened at this nice little park and was a real burner. Funky fresh beatbox by Fatty K.
	Lodz (Poland) – The first polish event happened at an old factory. The movie shows also a lot of city-images from Lodz and Warsaw plus a lot of trains.

he danish capitol has a long and strong history of Graffiti and lots of great writers. So it was a real goal for us to have Copenhagen as a part of the first MOS. The place to be was the old hall-of-fame at this electricity-factory near Dybbelsbro. Everything was set for weeks, the promotion, the sound-system, DJs, cans, permission.

A huge line-up of scandinavian artists were invited to Copenhagens MOS to show the vividness of this huge and old scene up there in Scandanavia, when the mayor of Copenhagen put politcal pressure onto the owner of the spot where the Hall-Of-Fame is located in Sydhavn causing him to take back the permission he gave weeks ago. The mayor follows an Anti-Graffiti-Campaign based on the “Zero-Tolerance” and “Broken-Windowns”. He came over with the weak and undifferenced argument that all Graf-Artists are vandals. That was reason enough to prohibit the Meeting. That’s how it can go in a democracy.

Never underestimate the power of politicians. Evenhough we had a permission from the owner of the yard the major of the city got in touch with this company and caused them to withdraw the permission. The company is owned partly by the city, so this didn’t take much. The information of the withdrawn permission came about one week and a half before the event. As Copenhagen has a very political, ambitioned and well-connected scene, a podium-discussion had been organised at the day of the event. Different politicians, media- and Graffiti-representatives discussing the sense and use of the withdrawing. You know how this goes. Politicians always misjudge our culture, so it was no big surprise that the conservative was talking mainly about Graffiti as vandalism and not as an artform.

Eventhough the Jam was officially cancelled, inofficially the cans had been given out to more than a hundred writers on the set. So it was an usual day at the hall-of-fame just with free cans. During the painting suddenly helicopters flew over the scene on the way to a raid in Copenhagen´s smooth district Christainia.

It was a sad and rainy day, but eventhough lotzs of people came by to watch the discussion, see the artworks and to have a good time. Later the day, the clouds faded away and the sun made its way. The vibe was revolutionary, but very positive among the writers.
This generalization of politicians reminds us of a time of censorship full of darkness and greyness half century ago. Nevertheless the local MOS-Orga. organised a huge debate and invited some politicians to have a constructive talk. The media-presence was enormous and caused a huge public discussion how to handle the desire of youth to express themselves over the media Graffiti-Art. What came out, is this typical blabla of politicians who are out to collect votes while building up fears to the common citizens, but also this huge debate in the public. However. Even if the event was cancelled it was about 400 people over two days coming to paint, to chill and to have a good time and to put an accent against the increasing criminalization of Graffiti-Culture.

July 2002, Malmoe (Sweden)

Malmoe Municipality has approx 300.000 inhabitants in eight different localities. Greater Malmö is one of Sweden’s three officially recognized Metropolitan areas with a popoluation recorded to be 628,388. Malmö was one of the earliest and most industrialized towns of Scandinavia, but until the turn of the millennium had been struggling with the adaptation to post-industrialism. Since then, Malmö has become a new city, with impressive architectural developments, attracting new biotech and IT companies. The city contains many historic buildings and parks, and is also a commercial centre for the western part of Scania.

Everything was set and ready for the event. The Nordic-Graffiti-Battle happened in a relaxed atmosphere in the harbour-area of Malmoe. Nice sand dunes surrounded a chilly place. Swet and CMP, Coderock, Kaos, VIM are just some names of the artists who showed up at this windy but nice Friday. Tasso came all the way from Germany to join.

April 2002, Wiesbaden (Germany)

The idea to create an international forum for Graffiti-Art was born in late 2001 after the last Wall Street meeting has been held at the famous Schlachthof-grounds. Check www.WallStreetMeeting.de . The city of Wiesbaden started to tear down the halls and walls that were well-known all over the world as the biggest Graffiti-Gallery in late. To keep the message and spirit of the Meeting alive, the MOS had been created and partners to be found. So pretty fast the concept was created and the organisation started.

As the halls and walls at the Schlachthof had been in the process of demolition it was not possible to do a Jam in the famous Wiesbaden-style, so the opening of the MOS was the creation of the WallStreet-Monument to remind the glory and fame of the area. A huge scafolding had been built around the main building - the cultural center. Famous artists had been invited to create a monument on the highest level of Graffiti-Art. Germany was represented by Daim, MaClaim, Seak, Loomit. From france the MAC-Crew was there, from Spain the Porno Stars flew in. More participating artists: Zenith from Antwerp (Belgium), Poker from the Netherlands, Os Gemeos, Vitchi, Herbert, Nina from Brasil and more. It was kind of sad as the weather has been grey these days and the demolished gallery drove by – in parts of bricks on huge trucks. Eventhough the surrounding was kind of sad, the vibe was very positive. All the artists reminded the famous WSM which inspired and motivated to create something special.
